Is it normal to lose 150 rating points in a session?

I'm not that good, still learning. I hover around 850 it seems, but some days I'll have a good day like today where I went all the way up to 930, and then not long after, I plummeted down to below 800. Does this happen to anyone else? Is this normal? I really don't know, and my concern is I have some sort of learning disability, or maybe I'm just getting old. How could I play well and gain all those rating points, then lose them all? How could I play badly so shortly after playing so well? Is it mental fatigue? Thanks for any help!

Hi. Ratings fluctuate all the time like that, and there is no need to worry. Also, there’s regression to the mean. Whenever you play a good game and get rating points, you’re likely to lose the next one, statistically. And vice versa. Don’t worry.
