Is it ok to advertise in tournaments?

Just wondering...Is it allowed to advertise my club in tournaments?

I see many people do it but recently I got a warning that my opponents have reported me for verbal abuse.(I can tell that I have done no such thing.)

Would be best if this was answered by a mod.

I think it is ok as many people advertise that way.

Another question: Where is it ok to invite to tournaments publically?

I think a lot depends on where these tournaments are you advertise.

Are we talking an in person site like New York or London or Sydney?

Or are we talking online on a "competing" site like the Internet Chokehold Club or LickChest?

The former should be fine.  The latter will likely get you muted.

The former should be fine.  The latter, if you use their actual names, will likely get you muted.

First, are you talking to me?

Second, I'm referring to a daily tournament on chess.com

I was referring to the OP.

If you are strictly talking chess.com clubs advertised within a chess.com tournament or a chess.com tournament within a chess.com club, there should be no issue unless one of the admins has a pole up their butt that day and is in a really bad mood.

But if you are advertising a club outside of chess.com, like the Charlotte Chess Center, who runs tournaments here on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday nights during the pandemic, there should be no problem with mentioning a live club in any country (in this case the United States).  Live clubs are not competitors to chess.com.

Virtual/Online clubs, like the ones here such as the Boris Spassky Fans club, any club of this type on a COMPETING online chess site - this is where I am saying the OP would get muted.  Same if he were to advertise a tournament taking place on a competing online chess site.

Hope this clarifies post 6, both what I am saying and whom I was referring to.

No, it's not okay.

What about in person club advertising?

I have seen a thread or 2 on the West Orange Chess Club in New Jersey, for instance (I lived in the next town over during childhood before I was a chess player is the only reason I remember it.)

A targeted invite to a physical club is something a bit different than posting chess.com club invites all over the place. If someone started posting invites to their physical club all over the forums, in chat, etc, that would be considered spamming.
