Seems legit.
psychic chess masters

There was a recurring character in the X-files who was a chess playing psychic.
There's a very popular crime show, hit TV series in the USA called The Mentalist, where the star is a brilliant and cavalier, but impish, crime solver, who is assistant to the authorities. He often use his orthogonal (e.g. unofficial) association with the "CBI" (e.g. FBI), to get away with tactics and strategies that the authorities, who are bound by strict bureaucratic regulation, cannot, and uses all kinds of cultivated mental tactics to put clues together, outwit the bad guys and solve the cases, making the authorities seem relatively clueless by comparison (yet still a crack crew of compentent arresting officers and intimidators, as well as colorful characters in a soap-operish kind of way).
And of course, every now and then, due to the the emphasis on the wit and intelligence of the star of the series, chess is used as a prop in a match of wits against a clever advisary.
In recent episodes, the arch villain, "Red John", is being said to have psychic abilities and a powerfully brilliant criminal mind. No doubt at some point they'll start using chess metaphors and show Red John excels at the game as well.

Awesome! I love the X-Files! You must be talking about Gibson Praise, the kid that Mulder was hiding out with for the entire duration of Season 9, with the exception of what I believe the last 2 or 3 episodes. Anyway, here is an episode in which you may be referring to. http://x-files.wikia.com/wiki/The_End

As for telepathy, there is no direct evidence for this.
By direct, do you mean vocal?

sure, i mean anything is possible, but in all likelyhood no there are no psycic chess players
Anything is possible, but in all likelihood there is likelihood that there are psychic chess players.

There is a likelihood, but that likelihood is basically zero.

Uri Geller the spoon bender, I remember that clown.
I had this comic when I was a kid:
Yes, sadly, the good folks at Marvel were duped and took him seriously enough to make a 1 issue appearence.
No word on how he would have fared in a battle against Magneto. I am pretty sure I remember him bending the gun on that tank. Spoons, hah! I'll show you some real bending!

For the record, I watched the entire 53 minute video. I found it quite interesting,
But my favorite podcast right now is Rationally Speaking so I might be a bit biased.

"Do not try to bend the spoon, that's impossible. Instead only try to realize the truth... there is no spoon."

Do you personally believe it is within the realm of possibility that there are chess masters who win because of their ability to see into the future or read minds? And if so, do you think the odds are high or low that such players exist?
And what about telepathy? If you concentrate on a move that you're worried about your opponent making, do you think it increases the odds of your opponent discovering and playing the move, assuming it might not be too obvious otherwise?
Easy question!
If you were truely psychic, which would you play? Chess? Or Texas Hold 'em?

I'd play Sorry, then I could tell if they truly believed me when I sent their pieces sliding.
Or Stratego then I'd know where they placed the spy.

Telekinesis would be handy in dice games like Yatzee. . . . or Craps if you're inclined to gamble.
There's a Twilight Zone episode where they actually did go to Vegas and did that. Sad ending to that story, though, as the guy's friend became excessively greedy.
If Garry Kasparov had telekinesis, he'd probably use it to slam doors when losing.

when I was teenager and played D&D, swear my friend had that power. could influence percentile dice even (d100), hitting his mark like 4 times out of 5. Only worked when you had him really ticked off, though.
I don't know what ever happened to him. I always figured he would make his fortune playing craps, though.

Some people are so dismissive and say there's "never been", or "no case". These are probably the same people that will believe anything that someone who dons airs of authoritative figures say not unlike paid off news broadcasters. I think many people have uncanny experiences of far too coincidental coincidences like thinking of someone right before they call or think of something and their spouse or partner starts talking about the same thing within a minute or two and neither of you have thought of it or talked about it for years, ... and just of stuff like that, that you can never prove 100% isn't a possible coincidence, but happens so often with such a slim chance of being merely coincidental, that you know it can't be a coincidence.
you need telepathy to become a GM
