and chess wouldnt be a thing at all either

Wow, a totally different view on this. Superb. Totally agree in that sense.

That was brought up before. There at least a couple hundred possible ways to deliver checkmate in one. Here is an example for the OP.

Lagomorph

Well, checkmate is always delivered in one move

PeterMisiu

@Lagomorph, it is false because there are mates in 2 meaning checkmates in 2 moves. You are sometimes right

PeterMisiu

@IfPatriotGames, you come up with creative first class checkmates!

I do not think it is possible in standard starting position.

@PeterMisiu why are you paying $100/year on chess if you don't know how to play chess?

No. Mate in 7s always become mate in 6s the next move, then mate in 5s, then 4s, then 3s, then 2s, then 1s, so it does eventually circle back to mate in 1.

PeterMisiu

@OrphanGenerator, not always

I'm pretty sure that it is more or less impossible to checkmate in one move from the standard starting position.

Checkmate is only delivered in ONE move. For example, mate in 7 doesn’t mean you can deliver checkmate in the first move.  You should make 6 moves then you can checkmate with only one move. And the answer for this forum is yes, because you the checkmate only happens in one move lol

Show me a mate that doesn't circle back to mate in 1, then.
