Is It Possible To Just Have Good Memory and Be Terrible at Chess?

I feel like I'm not "good" because I'm good at the game but because I just know a lot of opening patterns and a few tactical patterns. Whenever I'm not in a familiar position I simply play badly and figure it's I'm only "good" in very very specific situations and not really any good at playing any position.

Yes,if you have just memorized a bunch of openings but no idea what to do when you are out of book you could lose a lot of games.
