Is it possible to make true (and real) friendship between two chess players?

I am a very competitive person by nature but if someone says "gg" or seems like a pleasant person, I have no problems putting a loss to the side.

I'll be your acquaintance SKe5....maybe that'd b worth it........
(Me just wishing: That we had an acquaintance button too....friends can seem a bit much at times....)

That feels kinda lonely to me. Do you have any pets ? A dog, a cat....a tarantula ?
(Me just thinking: I'll be his/her acq. - even if it's 1-sided....and that's okay by me.)

We can play if we want to
You can leave your friends behind
Cuz your friends don't play
And if they don't play well they're no friends of mine
We can play if we want to
If we don't, nobody will
We can act real rude and totally removed
And we can act like an imbecile

Yes is possible being chessfriends :) at my chessclub i almost always shake the hands after the game no matter i lose or won :D. Not always, recently i played a guy who did throw with his chesspieces after i won x_x

It's a game. I mean even in sports or something like UfC fights where dudes wail on each other they often are friends.
We fight tooth and nail on the board during games, but we're also humans. I play serious games of chess constantly with friends as I'm sure most do and I don't see a reason to not make a new friend when yah play someone new..
If anything you automatically have something in common. Chess
Some of my best friends play chess, and are better than me at chess. It's not a good thing if someone allows differential in chess competence hinder a friendship.
