Well given that for most of the people, counting to 12 in three seconds is a feat in itself, so it seems unlikely. Yet for an experienced player to recognize a position from a particular game is fundamental. "This position is from Capablanca - Botvinik 1949, when Botvinik had a forced mate in 12. Let's see if I remember how it went"
