Is it ridiculous to think that i can reach the rating of 2000 FIDE?

My goal is to get a title. I realize that i am far from this. I am wondering if it is ridiculous to think that i can get my 2000 FIDE rating within say 2 or 3 years. I would like it if a stronger player share his/her thought on this. I have time, and i am determined, but do i have the talent? your thoughts?

why do you think this? of course i am far from this rating now, but can i improve that much. i know it is doubtful, but i also am wondering if i want to reach this goal what should i study. openings? endgames? middlegames?

I realize it seems ridiculous but i think i might be able to do it possibly

depends on your age and how much time you can put into it

i think any young person that is taught properly and exposed to the correct learning methods and studying procedures and hit that benchmark

once one hits 30, then i think its rather difficult to gain more than 150-200 rating points regardless of study habits or work eithics unless a person has been playing way beneath their ceiling and has never put any serious work in to begin with

I'm not that old!

oh ok yes of course it is fake. Boris Gelfand wouldn't be asking this!

My age is under 20 and i do have time to study chess. I have a limited amout of time on the internet, but off the internet i can study chess.

No, it's not ridiculous, but it may be more work than you realize (also depending on your age and all that as a previous poster said).

It's a fine long term goal.  To supplement it I'd make a short term goal too.  It can be a rating (like +100 points) a book or something like this.  Big goals are fun to dream about while small goals help move you forward every day.  Use them together and you'll get there eventually Smile

Is it your goal? The only goal? Will it change? You should ask your parents and family or those close to you.

Only you and your work ethic can judge whether or not you can succeed at this goal. If you are in your teens and can put in many hours of study per week it is very possible.

Just keep in mind that if you succeed it will mean time away from other goals/events, which will cost you in other areas of life. Id try 3 months of heavy tactical study and if you're still wanting the goal after that then continue.

I think this is  strange goal. Focus on your family and job and study some chess along.

i am younger, chess is my passion, and i have time. For a 30 year old this goal would not make sense. only if he already had a higher rating. But it is true you always should make time for your family

oh ok i wasn't sure what comment you were talking about

Nah, tbh reaching 2000 isn't all that hard if you play a lot of chess.

It s possible to achieve 2000 in 2-3 years, if you work hard. But you can also achieve something real, important and useful in your life if you work hard for 2-3 years.
