Saurav, your progress is astonishing - but this thread is about Vlad and his accomplishments.

Yes, please don't boast on the thread.

Wow great job dude. Keep studying and you will be 2000 in no time.

Thank you, I won't say it's been easy, because it hasn't. But, with hard work anything is possible. I'm thinking it'll will take me another few months.

Probably sooner. I am sure agents and managers have been lining up, huh? Have you been invited to the US National Championships yet?

No not yet. When do the usually get in contact with someone? The thing is I haven't been playing OTB chess just online, so maybe they're unaware of me as of now. I guess one of the reasons I made this thread was to raise awareness.

I'm not worried about Nakamura. One day I hope to compete with actual title contenders.

Jimmykay

They will be reaching out to you quite soon, Vlad. Make sure you get a chess agent so that you can take full advantage of all the sponsorship money that you will be seeing in the next few months. What brand of chess cleats do you usually wear when you play OTB?

Chess cleats? Are those like gloves you need to wear to not get the pieces dirty?

Jimmykay

No, I am referring to the footwear that you will need for competitive OTB chess, once you reach the higher levels. Most Americans wear Nike, but Adidas is more popular among the European players. Nike prefers to sponsor players with an actual history of wearing Nike chess cleats. (Do you call them spikes?)

I haven't thought of that to be honest. Right now I am just concentrating on improving my chess. I have a pair of Nikes somewhere in the closet so I shouldn't have any problem with footwear.

Jimmykay

Yes, you just concentrate on your chess, and let your manager worry about that stuff. At this rate, you will certainly be amongst the world elite by May. Coaches and agents must be scrambling to figure out who you really are!

I don't think it's possible to reach the world elite by May. By May, I'm only hoping to be rated around 2000. I might take a bit of break after reaching that goal, I assure you, it's a lot of work.

Jimmykay

So in 53 days, you have improved 293 points. That is about 5.5 points per day. Rating here might be a bit inflated, so let's say you need to get to about 2900. 2900 minus your current rating of 1075 is 1825. 1925 / 5.5 = 331 days...roughly by Boxer Day 2017. Sorry about my earlier optimism, not by May, but December is still pretty good.

Good math, but you have to understand that rises in chess rating are not always linear either.

Jimmykay

They are not linear? Are you saying that it gets harder to improve as you go along? Or will it get easier?

I was so impressed with this achievement that I began to analyze how impressive it is. I was of the opinion that my increase from 782 to 1075 (293 points), is equally as impressive as a GM going from 2500 to 2793 (Also 293 points). But then I got thinking, my rating jump is arguably more impressive since I am a beginner. It is easier for a GM to improve because he is already an expert.

I just read the original again, and answered my own question...so it is not linear, it will get EASIER is what you are saying here. So you will get there BEFORE December! Great!

I hope so, thanks for your support.

Dude there is NOTHING impressive about 1075! Even if you started at 500!!! Start a thread when you get to expert, that will be impressive.

Lol...you scoff at his meteoric rise, but this man is only 25. He is in his prime, and likely to be in contention for the World Championship 2018, at this rate.
