Is my opponent trolling me?

A bit random but it made me laugh. In a CC game I am currently playing my opponent opened the game as follows:

The Exchange Slav is so drawn that he will happily take the Black side of it just for giggles...

My opponent is lower rated than myself and I figure he's probably stumbled into this by accident, but what do you guys think?

Good troll opening? Playing the Exchange Slav (the most drawn, symmetrical opening I know) a tempo down (theoretically making yourself Black) for no reason whatsoever.

Thoughts?

I just go with people don't know openings. I don't.

That said, try and be really careful as discussing ongoing games isn't allowed and I can see this quickly going that route, intended or not.

I thought about that. I decided (hardly a tough decision) that if that does happen I'm happy to resign the game. Does that solve the problem?

I don't know? Hopefully people don't start analyzing.

LOL fair enough. Maybe you'll be the only person who posts here anyway.

It may be best if you asked a mod to lock this.

As a rule of thumb, if you're wondering about basically anyone on this site if he is trolling you or not, then most of the time the answer is yes.

Echange slav with an extra tempo is just fine.  White should not play like he did.

It's hard to argue with that!

But do I have an extra tempo or am I now just White? I think I'm now just White in an opening that I would never play against a lower rated player lol. I just find the whole thing highly amusing.

Has he tricked me into playing an opening that I would never play? Or has he just given me a free tempo for no reason? That is the question!

The reason somebody suggested locking the thread and the hope that people don't provide analysis is that it is against the rules to ask for or use advice on any game you are playing.

Come back in six months and then ask.

We can call it two things.  Slav exchange reversed (which is different to being just white) or black playing with the exhange slav with a extra tempo.  The final position seen above has been seen many time with high drawing chances (except black has the move here) through the exhange slav.

The above position is unexplored but I think black is doing better.

Some people are so "knowledgable" that they call every symmetrical pawn structure as "dead drawn". They don't say if the death happens before, or after they blunder something, though...

I love you pfren, but I am just joking! I know that at my level this is probably not going to be drawn all that often. I'm sure that you'll agree with me that this is more likely to be drawn than just about any other opening though.

I know. Stahl and I have already had that conversation. I found it amusing now so I posted it now. I wouldn't remember something like this 6 months after it happened...

Locking the thread is surely a bit extreme. I hope it doesn't come to that. Like I said, I'm happy to resign the game. Surely that doesn't come under sandbagging...

Dead Drawn? You are just rated 1800 here in blitz, mistakes and wrong plans can happen at this level. Surely white misplayed the opening, but saying it is dead drawn is too much.

We all start at some point, be more humble.

I let pfren off because he's pfren. I extend no such courtesy to you. Show me where I said that. Go on. Show me where I said anything about this opening being "dead drawn". Learn to read.

Yes, your opponent is trolling you because...

Chess is all about TROLLING your opponent: my conclusion and I have proofs

Come on Yuri.  No need to insult the guy.  I have had disagreements with ChessOath before but don't curse at him.

Magnus was wrong about only finding non-ignorant people on Chess.

So, me joking that my opponent thought that the opening was "so drawn" that he could take the Black side of it even though he was White has somehow been twisted into me saying that the opening is "dead drawn"?

Well, that's not moronic in any way at all...

If you are playing macer75 then yes.
