Is playing rapid stupid?

Blitz is fun. I've played long games online before, but I mostly play them in person.
Not just cheating, but if they play some dumb opening, or if they disconnect, these things can also make the game not fun because you're dedicating a lot of time to a single game with that time control.

For years I'd come home from work and play a few hours of 3 minute chess. I didn't care so much if I won or lost, it was just a fun way to unwind, take my mind off things.
If you play a few games every day for 1000 days, you will get a lot faster

In my opinion long games don't really fit with online mode. And on top of that, you can find free time for blitz or bullet practically at every moment, but for rapid? Uhh...

i think it's easier to improve when playing rapid or daily however you'll improve the most playing OTB.

Rapid is a very good time control. It is hard to get yourself to start a game but once you do time flies and it is a true battle of the minds without the clock being much of a factor. If anyone wants to play rapid on a team, like in the PRO Chess League, there is a Not-So-Pro Chess League called The World Wide League of Teams. (I didn't make the name) Anyone can join, already we have ten teams battling it out at the start of our second season.

Yep that's right, but i just can't play quickly. my mind can't think fast.
I also am a slow thinker, but it can be worked upon. I recently had a 200 point rating jump in bullets on lichess, and I attribute it mainly to better opening knowledge, which come with study and practice at slower time control. Rapid is a very good time control, but blitz may be a bit more fun and more time flexible, while daily also is a great way to improve at real chess.

So, guys
what do you think which is better for improving in chess
rapid or blitz?
or maybe daily+blitz?

IMO blitz isn't as bad for improvement as you often hear... but it's sort of addictive, which would make it bad because then you're spending hours on it.
In any case, mostly rapid for improvement. Either way, be sure you're reviewing all your games. Not for hours. Just pick the 1 or 2 biggest mistakes and move on to the next game.

I am asking this question, because i saw most of you play blitz or bullet.
why are you not playing rapid? i think there is a higher chance to play against cheater is it right? because in rapid you have more time and this can be helpful for a cheater or just boring?
Some people enjoy playing many games, some enjoy working out the puzzles of various positions and taking more time. Personally, I can't think fast enough to do well at 15/10, so I think those or 30 or more min. games are where I'll be.

Well it's based on if you have tough opponents, easy opponents and medium opponents. If it is easy and hard it's really stupid but if it is just right it is not that stupid.
In last 2 or 3 days i palyed 15+ rapid games 15/10 and 30/0 games.
1. Yes there are cheaters. Even if you don't care and just want to play good chess they can ruin everything.
2. Some players make a move and dissapear at some moment or they disconnect. If it was 3 or 5 min games no problem, you start next game, but in 15 or 30 min games is just wasting time and whole game experience is gone.
3.It takes too much time and if you want to play chess right now and find opponent quick, then 3 or 5 min is best.

Usually I was playing actually always 30 minutes, so max 60 mins. But as things change the preferences change also and a short period from 5 to 10 is more in my favor.
Saying that playing a specific amount of minutes is stupid, I wouldn't go that far.

hmmm. See, if you see my archive in my profile, you'll see that mostly I've been playing rapid. I may have lost, but I've won against two senior players. And basically, I think rapid 30 min gives you a good time to think per turn. But my tournament is coming, and I need to prepare for 15 and 10 min. I failed in blitz, but I almost succeeded in rapid. Here are the names of players in those games I was talking about. View those games in my archive - YoUsF1981 (1090) vs ChessWinnerMumbai (924) 15 min rated 0-1. And terry-25 (1971) vs ChessWinnerMumbai (920) 15 min rated 1-0. Now have a look at this: ChessWinnerMumbai (683) vs Ramakrishnaly (658) 10 min rated 0-1. And Sepleb (1046) vs ChessWinnerMumbai (879) 30 min rated 0-1. That is why I prefer rapid more than blitz and bullet.
