The only thing I notice that affects my play is whether I'm calm or excitable. Happy or sad, day or night, tired or awake, caffeinated or not, sober or tipsy, nothing else seems to affect it.
Is There a Best Time of Day to Play?

I play as soon as i wake up. 1 game of bullet followed by 6 press ups and 3 sit ups. I repeat this 5 times.

Also find that I tend to win more when I'm drunk, but I'm probably just getting lucky. I don't like to play drunk too often 🙄

Scots drink??! I thought that was just the Irish. My rating goes down about 200 pts for each drink imbibed.
Any 2000+ rated players have any opinions on the original question?

Totally disagre with the last comment. Not too worried about my rating but fair play is very important to me and should be to every chess player.
This has always been a gnawing question in the back of my mind. Usually I do tactics first thing in the morning and wonder if this is a good or bad or doesn't matter time to do them, as well as to play. Am I fresh or groggy? not alert enough yet and brain hasn't had time to wake up or well rested and ready? Or should one jog around the neighborhood, stand on your head to let the blood go to your brain, or have a strong cup of coffee, or does it not matter? I wonder has there been any research? Do/Did Fischer, Kasparov, Carlsen, Anand, Kramnik, et al, do anything like the above? Do/Did they have a best time of day to play?
Any thoughts?
