Why do chess forums have to be so pretentious? 900 is not the lowest. People who understand the game but blunder can play at 400 level. And there is nothing wrong with that. 900 is actually closer to statistical average according to Chess.com's data. 1020 (my score) is 72 percentile. 50 percentile would be statistical average and anything below that would be lower than average. I am so tired of chess' toxic community of big score comparision about chess ratings. It is so misleading and dumb (something I wouldnt expect from a community of people who are smart enough to be good at chess). If you are talking about Fide ratings being between 900 and 2800 than it seems to me that this group of people is very scewed towards those who take chess very seriously and in almost all cases have devouted endless hours to learning and playing the game. As far as addiction goes, Chess releases dopamine just like many drugs. It is believed that too much dopamine release from a specific activity can cause degradation of dopamine receptors causing a positive feedback loop of needing more stimulus and lacking pleasure from other less stimulating activities. As someone with ADHD i find this very challenging with chess and have to go cold turkey. Whenever I crave chess (which is a lot) I have to use all my willpower to replace playing chess with something I think is stimulating but not as addictive or problematic ( Dont drink instead of playing chess lol) Some things that have worked for me in the past is learning a language on duolingo, going on hikes and writing short stories. After what feels like a lifetime (but may be more like 2 weeks) my urges to play chess get less intense and eventually nearly stop. The problem is I love the game and when I get low I think I can just play it a little bit because what the fuck else do I have going for me ( not true but just how I feel sometimes). I also genuinely dream of having a postive relationship with the game where I can play it in moderation and enjoy the joy it gives me. Hopefully I can achieve that one day but as of right now the only time I am not addicted to chess is when I am cols turkey. As much as I have a toxic relationahip with chess I appreciate that it keeps me from doing other worse addictive behaviours I have. In that sense chess is actually a positive addiction. However for me it is still a constant struggle to resist chess in order to take care of other responsibilities. It is shocking how much damage I can do in this way and many times I even feel like I have something akin to a drug addiction. This may sound ridiculous to some but people like me with ADHD are dopamine deficient and particularly vulnerable to addictions. There is also probably a contigent of people on here that are just as addicted to chess but are in denial about and feel the need to squash others who are trying to face their own struggles head on and hopefully help others do the same. I am obviously not saying I can decide if you are addicted or not but just that denial is a very pivotal part of addiction. However I think there is a lot of room for philosophical discussion of what addiction really is and how many things in our life could be considered a form of addiction because I am definitely not trying to say these things are black and white and that I have all the answers. -Chris

Get a male cat. Find a Youtube video of cats making noises. Play it while your cat is nearby. Sooner or later the right noise from the cat video will piss him off and he'll pee on your keyboard. Addiction over.
Now, we're getting somewhere.
Phone Addiction is Serious.
Smartphone or Internet addiction can also negatively impact your life by:
Increasing loneliness and depression. While it may seem that losing yourself online will temporarily make feelings such as loneliness, depression, and boredom evaporate into thin air, it can actually make ...
Fueling anxiety. ...
Increasing stress. ...
Exacerbating attention deficit disorders. ...
Disturbing your sleep. ...
turn it to grayscale you will be on it suddenly less and less until you realize you're immersed hours upon hours daily in it
makes people sick
not mentioning any names
i mean over 10 hours daily in technology will make you insane
one and one half hour daily is too much
When I win I think "I am on a roll, lets continue". When I loose I think "Ok, just one more, I want to stop on a good note".
And repeat

I didn't close the account, and the addiction is still there. Do you live in delusions?
Where is the "closed the account" coming from?
