In (some) South African Club Leagues, the team captain can instruct a player to offer or accept a draw, and the player can ask the captain whether he should offer a draw. Of course, no discussion about the position is allowed.

Now, in a team match on here, are you allowed to ask the group adminss whether you should accept a draw offer?

Don't bother looking through my games, this is hypothetical....

I think that is technically asking for assistance with the position, and is therefore against the rules...

I have never come accross the draw offer or draw instruction in the Gauteng Premier League

I'm talking about the same league, Sir Knight..... If it is not like that anymore, it is a change in the last year or two.... ask Tannie Elise, she knows everything, lol

Such discussions and decisions are typical in team play. At least in my experience, in USCF team events.

That's a very good question. If the object is to emulate OTB team matches I suppose it should be allowed. It's a grey area though.

Did some googling, and found this under the rules for THE WORLD STUDENT CHAMPIONSHIP, which is FIDE sanctioned:

4. The captain must abstain from any intervention during play. He is, however, entitled to advise the players of his team to make or accept an offer of a draw or to resign a game, on condition that he does not make any comments concerning the actual situation on the chess board and confines himself to giving only brief information which can in no way be interpreted as an opinion expressed on the course of the game. Any communication between the captain and the players must be made under the control of the steward.

I have played team chess on teams in 3 different countries and its normal procedure , in team events, for players to ask the team captain before offering draws and before accepting draw offers. The captain decides what course is in the best interest of the team and the players must abide by the captain's decision if they wish to remain on the team.

Ok, so, my question is, what about on this site? Can your group Admin stand in for Team Captain?

I think it should be allowed but how would one prevent the captain of the team in the team match from looking at the game at hand and put that into account.

should not be allowed

Joe,

I feel your team captain would be the Super Admin, not the other Admins. I believe it's against the rules on this site to consult with any member about your game, but, think this should be addressed before any team matches take place just in case a situation like yours comes about.

Also, in a team match you already know the results listing the outcome of wins/losses for the current team match; so, it would be of your best judgement to decide upon the game to be either a draw or not.
