Is this possible?

I'm a 1400ish player and I was wondering if, assuming I can put about 6 hours everyday, I can reach 2200 in maybe 2 to 2.5 years. I think my first year's goal would be 2000 and then for the other year, I'll build up from there. Has it ever been done (assuming I do have talents, the right material, coach)?

Psyxchess

yes anything is possible with the right materials ie. talent and good coaching assuming u have those things u should be able to reach that goal perfectly fine and oh yeah hard work as well

Anything is possible if you believe in yourself and rainbows and stuff.

kwkingdom123

yeah, but that's still kind of tough....600 point gain in a year:(, but like realistically, you actually think its possible?

jerry2468

WEll... Maybe. Remember, the higher you go, the harder to move up.

Well, difference here on chess.com between 1400 player and 1800 player is just stop blundering. If you can collect 20 mistake free games in a row you will be 1800 after 20 games. Jumping from 1800 to 2000 is real pain.

hmm...lets see   I'm 23 in oct, started at 16 -- so its taken me 7 years to get from nothing to 170 ecf (which is 2000 fide, approx). it will probably take me another 2 years to get to 2200. I didnt put in 6.5 hours a day mind. But, I still think 1400 to 2200 in 2.5yrs is probably a little ambitious. I'd say 1900 is probably a good target.

TheOldReb

Possible, yes. Probable, no.

kwkingdom123

Yeah, it's probably going to be hard:( I think Nicholas Nip did it in like 3 years..sigh...I guess I'll just aim at about 2000

EternalChess
U can but it's only slightly possible with a coach

Be aware of diminishing returns once you start crossing the "average" / intermediate rating class.  For the same improvement in ratings you saw before, you'll now have to endure 10x the hardship you did for the previous rating class.
