Is using an analysis chessboard during a game considered cheating?

I have never used a second chessboard to analyze a chess game or visualize sequences of moves in real time, but if I ever use one while playing a game, would that be considered cheating?

Just part of the game for online turn-based and postal/correspondence. If you don't pull the analysis board out you are at a distinct disadvantage.

i am too lazy to use it.

if you wanted to...could you bring a mini chess board for analysis during an OTB game?  just curious.

Not unless you want to be forcibly ejected,

the mocking jeers of your peers, ringing in your ears. Laughing

I don't see where you would have the time to manage two chess boards for live play.  The time penalty would kill you.

In a 2 minute bullet game your time would be up before you finished setting up the pieces.

Not to mention your opponent would exactly  know what your next moves going to be if that live play happens to be OTB. Laughing

I use the analyse board most off the time here at chess.com.

if you don't like to use the analyse board, why play corrospondence chess?

How can it be fair, if you move pieces around? A weaker player can beat you...or your rating can go down...My rating has been going down lately, I'm learning more, but it might be that better players join this site each moment, and they then harvest my rating:)  It is sad to think that pplz peep into the future of a game, and then do better moves than what they had originally in mind...you might have a 1600 rated player play like a 2100 rated player, because of this.  Why cant pplz just play whatever is on their mind, the games feel so solid, when they peek, else it is like a sponge, soft and gentle, and the games is a pleasure to play:) Try playing the impossible to beat computer, it makes me mad, to play such a rock! A human is much softer to play...and you can actually feel the vibe when you play a real good player.  Sometimes you play an opponent, and then he just disappear, only to make a comeback with some mind-blowing move:D It can freak me out, or you get those that don't talk, but they can beat you...I lose far more games than what I win, but at live, I can win many games, anyhow, I never challenge lower rated players, cause if you do, it might be that your rating take a helluva knock, if they are climbing the ladder:)

No lol. You can't even write down a chess move before you do it because that's considered analysis. Seems dumb to me though.

wow didn't know that, I write the move before many times in my otb games for blundercheck, it never happened that someone pointed it out to meUndecided

Ok.  I'm actually practicing on not telling people they sound crazy even if they do.  So...yeah.

i use the analysis board in online chess. at first it felt awkward. now it's routine, even addictive. but i think in the end it will make me a worse player. you're supposed to do all this stuff in your head, aren't you? using the analysis board is like using a spell checker. it's irresistible, but then you forget how to spell.
