Note, my question is more towards longer time controls like rapid and longer, not bullet or blitz.
Is winning on time, winning or being petty?
A win is a win. Time controls are there for a reason. While your opponent was up on pieces, they were unable to actually checkmate.
I flagged my opponent in a lost position in 90+30 OTB once. It's the best type of win because I got to learn from a loss but I still got the rating points

Being petty isn't easy nor is winning on time. Even Petty says it's time to move on
you should never try to win on time, but if it happens, good for you.
Sorry no. Petty won't back down

how do you get flagged with 3 hours and a 30 second increment? That takes skill honestly.

90 minutes isn't 3 hrs dude
1.5 hours and 30 seconds increment
It was some guy who made a complex move with like 2 mins left on his clock. He then stood up to get water.
As soon as he left I made a move. He thought it was my turn still when he flagged 😂
I had on my best thinking face like it was still my turn
A win is a win, regardless of what people say, also, flagging is especially useful in tight time controls. It can be frustrating, losing because of the clock, but it's a part of the game.

Why would he take water with 2 mins left
I pose this question, because my best win in rapid here wasn't a win at all in terms of play, or skill, I knew I couldn't outplay the person, so from the beginning I decided to out pace them, I won on time, but was destroyed by my opponent who had plus 9 on me at the end. Are there any notable tournaments that were won by just the tactic of quick play in rapid? Just curious?
