Isolano--IQP--Isolated d Queen's Pawn

What is the best way to play the Isolated Queen's Pawn known as the Isolano or IQP? If you have an isolano is it best to exchange queens or to try to keep queens on the board? What is the best way to play this position? I know there are tons of books and videos available on this subject but I would like a quick summary or list of the best things to do when you find yourself with the IQP or if you find your opponent with one.

I don't see it is correct for those who play with isolino to exchange the Queen because the endgame will be getting into big trouble.   Mostly the player of isolino lost in the endgame especially.   M'I right?

Almost the whole of it dedicated to IQP positions.

Thanx 4 the help. I will check out the games collections and the book.  I'm trying to compile a list of do's and don'ts. For example:

IQP Rules:

If u have :

Don't x Qs

Advance

If opp has:

blockade

Does anyone have anything to add to this list?

Scottrf

The don't advance rule is just wrong.

The advance is the threat which makes blockading recommended, because of the freeing effect it can have on your pieces and how it restricts the freedom of your opponents pieces to watch over it.

OK, how about this (thanks to Pachman):

With the IQP (as white):

Avoid simplification because it will be weak in the endgame.

Place the pieces so that d5 will be possible with tactical benefit, or so that your opponent will be tied down to it, giving you play elsewhere.

Either: Occupy e5 with a knight and attack kingside, or play on the c file, using c5 as a outpost/point of entry.

Against:

Prevent it's advance by a blockade (preferably a knight because they don't lose mobility, otherwise a bishop).

Tie down piece to its defence i.e. build up on it on the open file.

Strive for simplification.
