Leiph is obviously right, but your not going to stop idiots like big king bud from cheating. Just be happy knowing that you would crush this guy face to face.

I think this is the best attitude toward cheaters.

Its just another reason not to use any game longer then 3 minute (and smart people can even create programs for short games) for comparision purposes.

Really long games are much more fun in person. Its frusterating to know that its hit a miss to know if you are getting a fair fight online.

Yall take your chess.com scores to serious, this isn't a league or ANYTHING. If I was "just playing chess" OTB with some dude, and he was using a 2nd board, and moving the pieces around, I wouldn't see him as cheating, as long as I had the option also.(unlike if he had an engine, or a 2nd player helping him)

It's not like using an engine, or even asking a higher level player to give you tips.  You're just 'moving some pieces around' on a chess board, to help you get better at chess.  Anyone who disagrees is simply lost in a fantasy, or an argumentative troll, #dealwithit

lol...like another poster said, common sense. not about taking scores too seriously, irrelevant whether people do or not. there is a reason why it's not allowed in otb play... and I ignored your bringing up listening to mudic at home while playing online vs. playing in a tourney.. cuz it's goofy and reeks of someone trying to justify their actions

I hope one day you will realize that what you are doing gives you quite an unfair advantage over your opponents as most of them know they are not allowed to play this way.

BTW, learning to work these things out in your mind will greatly improve your overall chess playing.

I've played casually, with friends / family. I've played in many different clubs, adult and scholastic. With or without a clock. None of them used ratings or any official rule book. We played for fun. Depending on the person we'd even do take backs or add time to the clocks.

This isn't an issue of seriousness. No one ever used a 2nd board as a crutch for poor calculation ability. Which is all it is, a crutch.

Even more laughable (which is a feat in itself) is that you'd think it helps you improve. Go to a club, and when you can't visualize more than 2 moves deep tell me about how much better you are. This is the first time I've ever heard someone claim that NOT practicing a fundamental chess skill helps them get better.

If I were staff, and I thought you were doing this, I'd ban your account.

There's really nothing more for me to say about this. I'll leave it alone now.

PLAYING CHESS ON THE INTERNET IS IT'S OWN THING!  IT HAS ITS OWN RULES!  ONE OF THEM IS, IF YOU WANT TO MOVE CHESS PIECES AROUND ON A PHYSICAL BOARD,YOU CAN, AND IT ISN'T CHEATING.  #DEALWITHIT

stop crying. your question has been answered unanimously that what you are doing isn't cheating.

but the question came up wheter it's cheating or not to use the 2nd board to analyze the position by moving pieces around. and that's what people are discussing now. as it is similar to your question they are using this thread for their discussion. if you dont like it, just stop following this thread.

condude2

If you do nothing but put the moves there, it's fine. Although, it's the same as using an engine in PvP mode to put the moves on, I'd feel iffy playing someone doing it.

isn't it obbious that doing analisis while playing is cheating? what's there to discuss??? sometimes i get the feeling internet forums are just a place where people show off their supposed intellectual superiority - and love to do it, like rubbing ones ...

So creating inane topics to watch people talk this way is called voyeurism.

Are you 1/ stupid 2/ retarded 3/ or interested in annoying me?

I made it clear WHAT I asked, and WHY. My question has nothing to do with people starting to discuss a completely useless and logical argument.

really I am on chess.com for long enough, have nenever created a thread, now I know why I never wanted to and regret doing this once.

you all full of venom sarcasm and a desire to mock people and make insinuations based on shit. Screw you.

Why are you getting so bent out of shape? Nobody seems to have a problem with the idea of using a real board to represent your game.

It is only natural a topic like this is going to bring out discussion, which, often, brings about debate.

You should enjoy it that you topic lead to some useful discussion. And if some have trouble communicating in a civilized manner, just ignore them. Most everyone else does too.

I think the question depends on how the board is used alongside the live online play.  If the player is simply copying the moves made online onto his board so that he or she can visualize the  game better, that should not be a problem as it is just like making notations of your moves in an OTB game!  But if the board is used for piece moving analysis and trying various moves before moving the online piece, that I would consider cheating!

Kleelof, I completely agree with you but seeing some people so bitter and ironic all the time, from the heights of their superiority come here and jump and scream TROLL!! TROLL!! just because I made a simple question out of curiosity.. gets on my nerves. And also other useless personal remarks and insinuations... i just hate that in people.
