Hey guys. It’s no secret to people who know me and my chess that the last week or so has been a bit brutal. I’m down around 70 rating points, and have been fumbling some positions that really have no excuse to be fumbled. Just the other day, I managed to unironically hang my queen when I was otherwise checkmating my opponent. Some 2000-2100 I am!!

That said, this game takes the cake for me; it started so promisingly. I sacrificed my rook three times and my knight once, two of them are blessed with the coveted double exclamation marks, and the other two did not throw away my advantage so are at least sound enough.

I, for some reason, started seeing ghosts in the position, scared unnecessarily of Queen checks on my weak king, and these worries transpired in me fumbling what should’ve been a spectacular attack. Please enjoy; I didn’t.

My instinct on move 24 had been to play Qg6, but sometimes when you’ve sacrificed a lot of material you get nervous about not definitionally forcing moves (I.e. checks) and look for more concrete solutions. But I’m kicking myself now for ignoring my instinct.

It’s completely normal to do stupid stuff at 2000-2100 rapid. once i managed to hang my Q 10 times in one week!

Ye dw too much, it's something I've gone through too. And lots of the 2000s you're playing may be going through this too. I have a few ideas as to why this happens at 2000+, but just focus on one game at a time and enjoy it

I actually posted my thoughts on it on someone’s forum the other day - I think it’s probably a consequence of creating more complex positions than beginners, but not yet possessing all the skills to navigate the complexity yet….

I think it's not about the complexity but more about how people see the 2000 elo rating. Many of the people you'd be playing would have new accounts most likely, so from playing many games vs them, you might slacken from the really easy mistakes they keep making so you don't focus as much as you would've done previously

"New accounts" is a polite way of putting it haha but you might be right there...

Hey this is a great thread ... please don't get it locked because someone starts discussing cheating. That is NOT, bottom line, what this thread is about, okay?

Locked because the truth can't be handled.

There is a forum specifically to discuss cheating. This one is not it. :-)
