In George Orwell's Animal Farm, the words "All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others" are part of the cardinal rules. Clearly this statement does not make logical sense. However, the point of a paradox is to point out a truth, even if the statements contradict each other.
I must try it! Btw, I must say after a few months playing exclusively correspondence I was very surprised last week when we started the season at my local club and I felt myself very confident in the speed games on the board.

Yes, despite what the dumbass Online Chess nay-sayers say, it really does improve your OTB/Live Chess play.
The problem I seem to have when doing tactics is I KNOW there is something to be found therefore I look at all sorts of combinations. I can't seem to hold this type of mentality during a real game and thus only find obvious tactics.
Maybe someone (if there isn't already) will come up with a way to add a tutor of sorts to the existing engines. While you're going over your game, the computer can have a on screen message mentioning a tactic coming up in x moves. This would help me tons as it's "real world applicable" to my own games.
Also, the new profile picture. No. Just no. lol.
I like it when people suggest that you spend several hours or do 100 tactical puzzles a day. I agree, real chess over a board cannot be replaced.
I think part of my improvement in the puzzles is playing blitz. I approach it as one long tactical puzzle.
Of course, we all know that a paradox is simply two doctors.
Oh, I thought where were Dockers trousers.

Really? I thought it was two ducks..

My chemistry knowledge is so pish poor it is merely enough to understand the very basics along with knowledge about the existence of basic metabolic processes.
Tactics, tactics, tactics.
If you want to get better at chess, do tactics puzzles.
We hear it ALL THE TIME when the weekly 'How do I stop sucking at chess?' post shows up here.
Well, here is a new one; I got better at tactics puzzles by playing chess.
For about a month, I did not do any tactics puzzles. Not by chioce, but too busy to play chess AND do tactics puzzles. During this time, I still continued to play Online Chess, Blitz and 30 or 45 minute games on a regular basis.
About 3 days ago I started doing tactics puzzles again. I was quite surprised to see how much better my solve rate is.
So it's a bit of a paradox. Not quite the same one Bart Simpson gave when he said "Damned if you do, damded if you don't.", but a paradox just the same.
So, to those of you who are wondering how to improve your tactics puzzle solving, I would say, just play more chess.
