I’ve amassed a long list of cowards who have avoided rematches, how about you?

GD, gdzen, my trophies are neither on a higher plane physically, nor are they high in any other sense. You need to learn how to quote people better. “Quality.”

Thank you, autobunny, it would be my honor to accept the title of ‘Resident Coward Collector.’ Also, thank you for your research on those links; saved me the time. I have to admit, when I first saw them I hoped they might be links to a site where I could play 2 out of 3, or 3 of 5.

Generally I accept rematch requests just because I know those grumpy boys will lose sleep if they go to bed with the last game lost. But sometimes I really do have something better or more important to do, so... sorry grumpy boys?

@chesstenor2018

It's not as though there aren't always lots of matches and tournaments open that you can join at any time. so stop being so holier than thou about people not accepting rematch invites.

I can lose to anyone - TWICE!

i missed a word in the quote and that changed the fact?? you just have nothing to say against it.

i saw this banter a few more times recently. i try but can not fully understand the reasoning why some people think people should rematch? just because their opponent wants it so? its 'my' decision whether rematch or not. you can only request it. your thoughts about reasons of being rejected, are.. just.. your assumptions. and they are all about how you feel. lets say you lost and want another chance to win and feel better, but that wont change the fact you lost it and no one has to make you feel better.

I think this thread and others like are started by presumptuous immature aholes.

First of all , no one is ever obligated to accept a rematch. While I normally do, in almost all circumstances as I enjoy the opportunity, I have sometimes (but rarely) declined for a number of reasons.

1. I have to use the restroom

2. The phone rings

3. The door bell rings.

4. I have to go to a meeting

5. I am literally bored with my opponent

6. The other day I had to go as one of my children showed up to let us know we were going to be grandparents for the sixth time.

I could go on and on. But please don't assume that just because someone does not accept your rematch offer they are a coward.

It may simply because they Have something more important to tend to , or you are just a boring a$$hole and they are tired of playing you.

Well said.

Confused-psyduck

Aren't the people complaining people don't accept rematches the crybabies in this story?

I’m not trying to brag; it’s just dizzying the number of people who run screaming 😆

Bragging that you lose? People ask for rematches when they lose and their ego is deflated. You are saying you offer a rematch when someone loses badly and is below your 1400 range?

If the game was interesting and educational, that go over the game. If you really did beat the person, then most likely that is what they are doing. A rematch should happen later. I am not saying a rematch should happen, but if it is then it should happen not immediately after the first game.

donnelleraeburn

I honestly fine chess. Com should have an auto rematch feature, for people who just say gg no re, to teach them a lesson

donnelleraeburn

Best of 3 should be default, so when people lose to a 900 rating, they take a few months off. Hahaha

Zardorian
Best of three would be perfect for me!

Holy cow, Morphy’s revenge, congratulations on being grandparents again! I’m very happy for you.

Fantasto, thanks for your comment about tournaments. Denverhigh stated on that lame , “sorry pal ...” post that in group games you have to play two games. Is that true? And if you quit halfway through the 1st, do you get points for both games? If so, that solves everything.
Ravenclaw21

I nearly never accept rematches

but only because I don’t have the time

i believe that someone has called me a coward before for that reason

Ravenclaw21

Also nice pfp pic @chesstenor2018

Uh... most of the time when I lose a game I have to go do something else...

Zardorian
Thanks, Ravenclaw21.

One analogy to consider is boxing. Although there are plenty of stories about boxers who won the first time – – did not need a rematch—there are also many exciting stories, not the least of which is Rocky, where the rematch was a large part of the heroic/dramatic element. When a boxer calls for a rematch, people don’t call her/him a crybaby, but you always feel a little squeamish about the person who turns down the rematch.
