Seems likes I read his fide was around 1900 maybe (he was 8 when be won that). Someone said he was about 2000 strength when be had to stop at 10. Back then that rating was more significant than today. Just harder to achieve.

I was wondering cause Josh'es was USCF 1595 at the age of eight, and 2000 when he was 11. Just wanted to compare. I wonder how jeff feels about his father now.

There are some offensively stupid people on the first page of this thread.

Why do you say that?

I guess you don't have the courage of your convictions.

He got his GM title.

What does that have to do with running a gym with Andrew Dice Clay?

Conflagration_Planet

Don't know.

Well you can`t fit a square peg in a round hole. Josh made  his way in life after chess and he was successful.

Is there life after chess?

I loved Josh Waitzkin in Karate Kid. Wax on. Wax off.

Personally I think we tend to overplay this "real men never, ever quit" mentality.  When he stopped enjoying chess, he decided to pursue other interests.  That sounds perfectly reasonable to me, and is certainly not an indication of a lack of character.

I think in 2 to 3 years Magnus Carlsen will do the same thing because there will be nobody who will be able to beat him for a long time...

johnmusacha

Do you think now that Magnus Carlsen will be running a gym with Andrew Dice Clay in the near future?

he just lost interest in the game, he was a great player but i think the stress and the mind warping GM chess does to you turned him off from playing professionally, also he grew up when bobby fischer starting turning kukoo and i think he wanted to avoid that.
