Chess squares are actually very rarely black and white. Typical color combinations are green and white, blue and white, brown and cream, etc. Obviously the lighter color is considered to be white. Oh, and good luck with your game!
I am brand spanking new to chess.
I'm looking at the very beginning of the how to play section and the board set-up paragraph, wherein it says "white queen on white, black queen on black"
Yet the corisponding photo above the text does not depict this statement.
I haven't even got through one page and I'm confused by the counterdiction......
