And it is interesting that out of everything I wrote, you chose to cherry pick what I said instead of focusing on his unwarranted hate.

I did not cherry pick on anything you said.

shriyarai

My comment on the 'report and move on' wasn't a reply to you lol, it was to the other guy.

shriyarai

Yeah you didn't cherry pick anything, I wasn't replying to you. I'm new here and using the app, don't know how to directly reply to people.

By creating this thread and engaging with 2 trolls thou granted all of 'em exactly what they wanted. We hope thee feels better after this rant, that way everyone got their share of entertainment.

Second, my post was not even a reply to your post, but to the one that mentioned California street poopers (by blackmore324).

Just an observation sir. Recently been to Oakland so can confirm for myself that the sights there can sometimes be less-than-savory. Didn't mean anything offensive by it, though I am sure most Californians are also cognizant and even make fun of the problem. I love the irony of British people who keep reminiscing about the good old days of the British Empire and are blissfully blind and ignorant to the suffering they caused around the world. Karma gets you, and it will catch up some day. Already is, with immigrants taking jobs and then brits whining about it.

Funny.  I thought karma will as supposed to happen to the people who do the action.

Talk about being a racist, believing people we should suffer karma due to race.

shriyarai

I don't believe that people should suffer collectively just for being a certain race. Stop putting words into my mouth. All I ever said was the racists will get their karma. Those who are born into the same race as colonizers but aren't colony sympathisers won't get any negative karma. Those who are colony sympathisers will get negative karma. Not difficult to understand, eh?

shriyarai

I've created this thread not for entertainment, but because racism hurts. Those who are privileged and have never faced it will not understand.

shriyarai

From henceforth, you shouldn't assume the meaning behind someone's words. All I said was karma is catching up to the colony sympathisers who are whining about immigrants taking their jobs. The ones of the same race but who aren't racist have no such complaints and don't whine about it. So they don't get any negative karma of their ancestors, but those who hold onto and take pride in the atrocities committed by their ancestors do.

If someone is being racist to you, report them. Problem solved. There's no need to post about this on a chess forum; in the grand scheme of things it does nothing to solve racism as a whole. Sadly racism exists on chess.com and in the rest of the world. Unfortunately, there often is no easy answer on how to solve this epidemic. The best thing you can do is report your opponent and move on. Be the better person and don't retaliate back. When you see your opponent's comments, don't acknowledge them and respond hatefully back; instead, respond with love and respect when faced with hate. Just concentrate on the game, disable the chat, and don't talk back.

@shriyarai: Karma seems to be very selective. If it were not, in an addition to Nuremberg trials we would have had international tribunals for war criminals from UK, US, Russia, Israel, etc. But it seems that those who enjoy military success avoid Karma.

shriyarai

Naive of you to think that simply reporting them and moving on solves anything. Chess.com hardly takes any action. While I agree that racism as a whole is a massive issue and there is no simple solution, a harmless rant for people to get it off their chest is perfectly fine. My post isn't to 'solve' racism, it is simply to highlight it. Also, responding to hate with love doesn't do any good either, hate needs to be dealt with practically. I never showed him any hate nor stereotyped a community, just made a harmless Biden joke which triggered him. My point of making that joke wasn't hate, but to let him know that people won't simply ignore and tolerate racism.

shriyarai

Just because there is no 'need' for me to post this, doesn't mean posting this is harmful. If anything, it is helpful for people to voice their concerns against racism. It doesn't solve it long-term, sure, but it brings people some peace.

And I never said that you are more privileged than me. All I said was that not having faced racism ever in your life is a privilege. I'm not saying that it is wrong to have that privilege, all I'm saying is that everyone deserves to have that basic privilege of not being judged for their nationality or skin colour.

Sorry you dealt with that but that’s the world we live in. Don’t take it personal there are good and evil people all around us. Unfortunately all you can do is ignore them for now, hopefully there will be a time, hopefully sooner than later where ignoring them is no longer an option and physical harm is.
ShrekChess69420

I never said that posting your rant is harmful. It's fine to raise awareness about racism, but it seems odd to me that you question my suggestion of reporting your opponent considering that simply posting about the incident can only yield the same or less favorable outcome. Meeting hate with love and respect is the best way to deal with these types of things; you complain about being treated in a racist way, yet you proceed to type a remark about Biden to your opponent. Disregarding the fact that he was the aggressor, could he not feel the same pain as you after your remark? Fighting hate with hate solves nothing, as now you both are victims. If you want to tell your opponent that being racist is unacceptable, then just tell him that!
