I pay monthly because I don't notice what amounts to one Carl's Jr. hamburger with fries every month. It costs more annually, but it's like free. Plus, if I spent that money on the burger and fries, I would notice it every time I look at my belt buckle.
Just upgraded my account for games archive/ features

I recommend everyone upgrades their account to allow them to go to their games archive and DL all their archived games PGN for future reference.

(not even a promo, but this site is pretty fairly priced. If you don't want to spend money you can simply get a one month plan $7/month and DL all your PGN games archive files)
I got a $50 1 year plan because I think it's a fair price and I can afford to spend $50 on it, but I would recommend $7/month plan and then cancel as soon as you get your games if that's all your looking to do.
