Kasparov said that Fischer would have won the first match, but the second match surely Karpov...
Karpov - Fischer
bobby fischer would probably have died because of too much laughter when he would have seen karpovs bishop moves

Karpov would have curb stomped Fischer.
And apparently, Fischer was thinking the same thing.
That's quite interesting. Maybe that is why Fischer chickened out - he was afraid of Karpov?!

Imagine what was Fischer thinking. He knew Karpov played virtually without any mistakes. He was physically and mentally stronger than Spassky and wouldn't fail under pressure. If Fischer played chances were pretty much that Karpov would win and the legend of destroyed. Fischer decided to hide and let the patzers speculate.
Fischer didn't want to lose his crown playing, he chose to lose his title by the better way to mantain his legend intact.

1975 would be very close, but Karpov definely takes it in 1978. I think Fischer's greater experience would have been tough to overcome in 1975, assuming he had been playing in the intervening time since the Spassky match.
However with a 3 year layoff he wasn't at the top of his game anyway, so likely would have lost it.
Fischer was a great chess player, no doubt, but today we only have speculative fiction about this and that. The true is that he, and only he decided to run. Nobody runs for nothing.

Im sick of all this speculative questions... There are no answers for them.
And the people saying Fischer run because he feared Karpov?!
I dont't know if he feared Karpov, the only sure thing is that he ran. The title was too precious for him to lose it, like the ring to Gollum...

We cant really say if the Fish was afraid of the Carp because the Fish stopped playing chess 3 years before 1975.

Fischer had dedicated his whole being and idea of self-worth for over 20 years toward one goal, that was to be the best chess player in the world. Once he achieved that objective he was afraid of losing to anyone thereby not being the best in his mind and the rest is history. I believe it would have been close in 1975, and I believe no-one could have touched Karpov in 1978. Don't forget Fischer forced the whole chess world to reevaluate their approach to the game. Just like Tiger Woods did for Golf. One of the first to benefit from Fischer's schooling was Anatoly Karpov.

Chess in the USA (and maybe other countries, too), and professional chess would never have developed like it did if it wasn't for Fischer
Chesscom would probably never exist if it wasn't for Fischer - so there would be no chesscom unrespectful and ignorant posts spoiling his name in the forums (if you want speculations)
Think about that...

Or maybe he just had reached the top and ther was no motivation left, or it was just because they didnt accept his demands. We never know, only Fischer knows. But im pretty sure that Fischer way too smart to be analysed by some mediocre intelligent people in the forums boasting they have paranomal powers so they can read the motifs of a superior being.
Fischer was really a great example of a superior being, with his will and energy and his intelligence, i bet if he had focussed his mind on something else he would have had no trouble becoming billionaire.
Fischer was not a superior being! He was a superior chess player, no doubt, one of the top five of all time. Superior beigns are very few in history. Chess is a game, a game that give money and fame to the big talents, who plays to achieve a very good income and keep the ego satisfied. A superior beign is another thing, a higher thing. A question for TetsuoShima: become billionaire is the goal of a superior beign?
What do you think would be the result if they played in 1975?
I think Fischer was still good enough at that time to hold himself and avoid being ashamed. Probably Karpov would have won by +3.
