Well then I know we're not talking legs.  Karpov has a set of gams on him.

Kramnik said Magnus was like a improved Karpov

Kasparov said something similar as well

Karpov

He is also vastly superior to Carlsen at this point.

10 years world champion, 160 first place tournaments ( a record ) , and balanced on a knife edge against Kasparov, whilst beating him in 1984. > Rating and beating a 42 yr old Anand

What's that got to do with how he looks in fishnets?

um no..

skill wise Magnus is one if not the strongest player of all time, has much better posistional mastery then karpov

For example?

well seeing as magnus is the highest rated player of all time, and kramnik has mentioned that magnus is an improved karpov

do you have examples that karpov is better or are you just mad that a 23 year old is the strongest playe of all time

The point is, there might be three people on the planet able to judge instances where Carlsen has shown superior positional mastery to Karpov.  None of them will be turning up in this thread, so it's a little silly to be saying such things.

well its stupid to say karpov is stronger then carlsen

Kasparov. I much prefer Karpov, but I can't objectively say he was better - not when they played five matches of a combined 144 games, and Garry won four of the matches (albeit by a slender total margin of 73-71).

Regarding Karpov and Carlsen, that's harder to say.  I guess I'd go with Carlsen because he's had the advantage of studying Karpov's games (it's my general belief that as a general rule, each chess generation becomes successively stronger due to having more games to learn from).

However, I think at this point- outside of his high rating - Carlsen has yet to earn the achievements (160 1st place tournament wins) that Karpov achieved.  But that may come in time.

Hard call. They were both awesome.

But at their peaks, Garry proved himself a fraction stronger.
