I was kibitzing on the games of two 1550 rated players on playchess and what I noted was
1. Every move or 2 out of 3 moves was dropping a piece due to a tactical combo
2.Queen was getting trapped but neither player saw it
3.All moves were pointless
4.One player who was attacking, suddenly moved a pawn in front of his own king thereby weakening his king. The opponent had no threats at the moment.
5. Did I mention that every third move was dropping a piece
And the two players were both above 1500
I would like to be able to talk to these players and perhaps tell them some things. For example, shockingly, White played the Queen's Gambit, black accepted and then went on to try and hold on to the pawn with b5. First of all White went 2.e3 which is inaccurate because of 2..e5 exchanging queens and weakening White's pawn structure. Secondly, on 3.a4 Black played 3..c6? and White did NOT take on b5 after which if Black recaptures he loses a piece to Qf3. I was surprised that someone with a 1550 rating who plays the Queen's Gambit does not know this basic pattern.
