Why sometimes is "I like" and sometimes is "I do like" (not pretending to be funny)?
Adding the word "do" to "I LIke" is just like underlining a certain point.
I like painting.
I do like painting.
The second sentence has more effect by the addition of some emotion.

It's just being polite, I am English after all.
