King legal moves

Hi, I am new to chess and I have learned stuff about it, But now I am really confused how king's legal move changes. I am also confused about 'legal movements', for example when I am playing chess I thought a king can go forward to capture something but I was not able to.

The King cannot move into check. Meaning it cannot take a defended piece, because it would then be in check.

When there was a king in g8 and a knight in f7 why was I not able to capture it?

I am so confused so when it is a defence king can't capture anything, and how can you tell if it is a defence?

If one of your opponent's pieces can move to the square the king is trying move to / capture on then that's considered moving into check and not allowed. That is true even if your opponent's piece happens to be pinned to their king

On 4/17/2025 against TR201198 on move16 Nexf7 was played. You cannot capture the Knight on f7 with your King because it is defended/protected by the Knight on d6. You have to look very carefully to see these things. Read post #6 by @Martin_Stahl again carefully.
