You can't mate with only a knight or even two knights, but you can with two bishops or only one rook.
The rook can "eye" 14 squares, the bishop 13, the knight only 8.
Knight is almost like rook

I have a couple arguments why the knight is more rook than bishop. Number 1:
Knight can protect eachother like rooks
Knight can visit every board like rooks
Knight can win the same square like rooks
------- Arguments for bishop --------
Bishops can move in a line rooks
Bishop can see far (like rooks)
So as u can see, 3 argument for knights and 2 for bishop. Knights are more like rook then bishop.
