Knights or bishop?

I'm leaning knights, because they can use both color squares and fork and fortress each other . But there awkward and easy to kick around.   What do you guys think?

Benjibass

i favour 2bishops over2knights, but 1knight over 1bishop

Most times if you got 2 bishops 1 is weak and the other is strong but if you get to a end game with both B then you are in good shape

Depends hugely on the position.  Generally, bishops are better in open positions compared with the Knight, which is normally better in closed.  There's pros and cons to both. 😃

Bishops are also better in positions with unbalanced Pawns on both wings (eg: 4 vs 3 on the K-side and 2 vs 3 on the Q-side) because the long-range Bishop can help to defend one wing while assisting the advance on the other wing. A Knight would have to choose which job to do.

Yep, there are many positions where that is very true.  That's the power of the bishop

As a general rule in middle game, a kt post in 5th and 6th ranks in the centre "c" to "f" files are always better than Bishop.

My "Kids, don't try this at home!" game is a convincing example of the power of the Two Bishops on the attack... also known as the Killer B's !

Bishops cover more ground.

TrooperChessOrTC

Oh no!

ziplinekitkat

oh dear whatever shall we do?? !

Bishops actually cover less ground. A knight can potentially occupy or attack every square on the board, a bishop exactly half that.

Generally, knights are worth 3 points and bishops 3.25

The whole “bishops are 3.25” thing shouldn’t really be relied on. The point system is a rough guide. Smart players know when one minor piece is stronger than the other.

I'm just giving general advice for patzers who can't decide. In open positions, bishops are probably better and in closed positions, knights are better. Generally, bishops are better by a tiny bit.

Sometimes. For me knights are better by a tiny bit because of how I like to play. It really just depends on the opponent, and how he or she plays. I usually find more opportunities with knights than I do bishops.

Knights fork, bishops pin and cut.

But what if a bishop wants to "identify" as a knight or vice versa?

Then I sacrifice them or resign out of shame

Wait! The thread title is “Knightor Bishop?” Knights plural. I’d much rather have two Knights than just one Bishop.

I would rather have ten knights than just one bishop (assuming all the knights are on my side).
