Another berlin another draw
Is the Berlin even worse than the Petroff?
Why does a 2800 player play so listlessly with Black and insult his talent in this way??
Kramnik is a great endgame player. Why should he not play an opening that maximizes his skill advantages and creates a situation where he is playing to either win or draw and his opponent is playing to draw or lose?

I just looked in MegaBase 2012:
Looking at only Berlin Games, Kramnik scores 51.6%.
Looking at all other games with Kramnik as black starting 1. e4, Kramnik scores 51.2%
While some people might find the Berlin boring, I have to wonder given Kramnik's rather good performance history with the defense if that says more about their ability to appreciate endgames than about the opening's qualities.

You still miss the point -- he scores better (by probably a statistically insignificant margin, but still better) using the Berlin than using all other responses to 1. e4 combined.
Your contention is he should shelve an effective weapon because why?

Look I get that it is effective, I am not disputing that. It just feels a bit cynical to me that's all.
I wish more games could be like the magnificent third game!
The irony being, of course, that the reputation of the Scotch Four Knights is pretty far removed from "dazzling" itself.
RIght! What could be more tame and plodding?
On the one hand, we could say, "Good on Aronian! Taking an otherwise stodgy choice by white and turning it on its ear by choosing the road less traveled (Bc5 instead of Bb4), and creating fascinating imbalance by trading his queen for a variety of minor pieces!"
On the other hand, isn't that exactly the point? When you're as mind-bendingly rock-solid and unshakeable as Kramnik, isn't it in your best interests to tame, bore, and plod the hell out of your opponents, hoping they'll try to make something out of nothing that so you can gain the upper hand?
We may see an endless succession of Petrosian-esque drawing chances. Opponents probably see a brick wall. And they've got to decide whether to stare at it for the rest of their lives, or attempt to run through it. When they attempt to run through it, it may be more exciting for the spectators, but the wall's record is pretty good.

Tell us the move you saw, without computer help, that would have allowed them to continue fighting, give us your analysis, and maybe we'll consider what you have to say.

Pfred, you have to understad, that according to ciljettu, 2800 players are cowards who aren't interested in playing real chess. In his infinite chess wisdom he has determined that they aren't trying to win at all, and they're just sitting there pretending to play.

I agree, the game is fascinating. But because someone didn't gambit a queen it's boring and shows how horrible these players really are. At least according to some folks around here, anyway.

And another draw. Aroinan has the advantage of white pieces in the final game. Should be interesting.

@Pfren -- I have to have the majority of the subtleties on a game like this explained to me. But a good explainationg is possible and when I get one, I'm just in awe of the talent required to play this sort of position well.
I don't see these as boring. But obviously some people think that Kramnik and Aronian are a couple of cowards because they're not doing Rudolf Spielmann impresonations every game.
This is not the play i expected of him he is getting his but kicked i mean he lost his right to castle he is in lots of trouble! what do you think is going on
