Lack Of Self Control

Sometimes I take too long and sometimes too short. It’s so strange it’s like an energy swing

I start a 30 minute Rapid game- hoping to have a good battle and maybe win and get some points, after all my goal is so near; and I’ve been improving rather quickly. Nope. I do all my opening moves in a minute, blunder, and then resign after I’m down material. I quickly start a new game. Within the first few moves I’ve resigned again.

I can’t seem to control myself. I keep getting worse. And if I lose a game terribly, I’m basically setting myself for a giant streak of loses. I get frustrated and angry. I’m not normally like that in day to day life. Someone please give me some tips on how to control myself and play to the best of my ability.

reward yourself if you use your time. as for how you do that, I don't know

BostonChess stop spamming….and I also think that’s not allowed in forums

I was referring to Rapid…not sure what you mean?

Also I haven’t taken the approach of tactics as many suggest- I’m more interested in understanding the concepts of the game first

And as Bobby Fischer said, the tactics flow from superior position even though I don’t spend much time on puzzles

The tilt is real.

But that's easily fixed: Since you're playing 30 min chess simply establish a rule where you have to analyze the position for, say,  at least 30 secs before each move... no matter what, even if it's capturing a queen or checkmate in 1.

If you don't get checkmated you will play at least some 60 moves. With increments getting flagged shouldn't be a worry.

Thanks

I’ve lost 120 points over the last few days. And when you started at 620, that’s a huge drop. I’m getting worse the more I play, and I go into games thinking (knowing) I’m going to lose. It is unbelievably frustrating. I hate it
