Or, be the bigger person and just checkmate them respectfully rather than showboating. Be the change you want to see.
Learn to resign gracefully.

Those who want respect, give respect. Otherwise, get schooled.

"When was the last time you saw a GM level game end in checkmate?"
When was the last time you were a grandmaster?

I don't think we need to think that highly of ourselves to so easily feel disrespected either way.
Grind, don't grind - your choice. If it were a tournament, saving energy might be a consideration.
Respect doesn't really figure into the situation.

I ban people who don't resign (or abandon the game) in totally losing position. I don't care if you are praying for stalemate or hoping to win on time, I am not playing you again. Problem solved right there, simple as that.

"my opponent did a small thing that he is completely in the right to do which annoyed me greatly. Therefore, I must drag out the game longer because just like how my opponent cannot resign gracefully, I am so petty that I too cannot end the game gracefully."

I'm not motivated by ego when I do this. I'm mostly just annoyed that my opponent is drawing the game out for no reason and essentially saying "I don't believe you can win this clearly won game." Again, those who want respect, give respect. If you don't, you get treated accordingly.

You know why people who won't resign populate this site? Because people let them get away with it. I don't.

what is messed up is abandoning. if you're not gonna attempt to save the game and you just leave to waste your opponents time that's messed up and should be banned
messed up is a little much. Like sure its annoying but you still get the win and the points. I actually think it might be better to just quit if you know you're gonna lose since it'll just be a waste of time to keep going and prolonging the inevitable. Not like anyone will remember that exact match a few days later anyway

What an excellent method of "not letting them get away with it". Promoting 4 queens and checkmating them. Yes, that'll teach them. When I am playing a chess game and my opponent promotes 4 queens, the first thing that comes into my mind is "yeah man I should have resigned" and not "gg go next". A solid thrashing! I'm sure they'll remember your 4 queen checkmate that definitely no one has ever done before and is definitely not a thing they see even streamers doing. They'll see this and go, yes, I will choose to resign next time! Surely!

This feels concerningly threatening lmao
Even if ratings are yout primary goal, playing on in a dead lost position is almost always a waste of time. Sure, you'll occaisonally pick up a draw. But would all the time sunk into playing out loses be better spent in things with a better ratings return on investment, like analysis, tactics, or even starting another game?
This is a fair philosophy to hold. It’s not a fair philosophy to impose on your opponent (I don’t mean you’re trying to do that, but the OP is). Your opponent gets to make that decision, not you.
