OH!, OH! PEOPLE! Here’s a tip! Something I do before resigning in daily games. Go check your opponent’s profile. You can get information that comes in handy! Check for time-out percentage, and for number of games the player has going. Any player with 50 or more simultaneous games might time-out. Ziryab knows what it’s like to have over 50 games going, especially if they’re mostly, 24 hour games.
Otherwise, I generally resign, unless my king is the last piece which I can move. But, I don’t drag those games out on time.... yet, If there’s a chance for stalemate, insufficient material, or, repetition / 50 move draw proclamation possibilities, I like to see where it goes. Like, if it’s King vs King & bishop, a lot of players might struggle to get a check mate, and you can proclaim a draw at 50 moves past the last pawn move.
I did recently, though, drag a guy out on time, who was beating me, out to the bitter end...
It’s a 3 day per move tournament where a guy (who’s rated about 300 points higher) lost our first game. Beat him in 9 moves, 10th move was checkmate. There are 8 players, and due to the weighted rating system, 949 ended up on top of the list, with the second lowest rating.
Our second game, took a long time, though I knew he would win. I just liked, seeing my name on top of that list!
There is another possibility as well. In game chat affects the situation, too. I’ve got about 4 or 5 players with whom I’v also got on-going in game chats. After awhile, several games, you start to develop a friendship. At that point, neither player really cares. It becomes more about the chat, in a way.
can't believe you @ gloating at your name on top of some dumb list! if you didn't deserve to be there, get over yourself, i'd rather hear you have 10 other reasons for dragging out a game than that, but as soon as you drag the word drag into it, you've kinda lost your mana
I also had a game today against someone 80 points lower rated, where I was in an endgame up 2 pawns and my opponent wrote me "plz resign" and when I asked why, he just offered a draw. I have no idea what goes through these players` heads. No way he would have resigned if he had the advantage.
