Learning Chess Nuances

I am looking for something that would be related to the articles portion of this website by strong players but perhaps a larger selection. I have been looking for some script that discusses the harder to find on the internet chess subjects. I've been having a hard time finding any kind of descriptive opening theory for example. I have been wondering if The Chess Informant would be a good buy and if it might cover some material related to what I tried to describe. I am mainly looking for a chess magazine like deal which hopefully covers somewhat the ins and out of chess and comes out with updated versions kind of frequently, or practically anything with a lot of strong player insight. I also just heard of The Week In Chess and am going to check that out. I was wondering if anyone kind of understands what I'm getting at and can offer suggestions. Any help is appreciated.

I think i get what you're after...

I've been a big fan of TWIC from the early days, it has an excellent round-up of current tournaments news, and a weekly downloadable database of recently played games in various formats.

Chess Informant is also a very good collection, but is mainly specific to new trends and developments in established theory.

There used to be some good (printed) magazines around, here in the UK there was Chess Monthly, i'm working on digitising my collection, i'll let you know when i finally get it finished... I'm not sure if it's still in print, the advent of internet, and especially TWIC, took over...

Thanks for the reply. So I guess based on your reply that TWIC and Chess Informant,or the like, are indeed what I'm after.

They could well be... Chess Informant isn't exactly cheap, but if your level of understanding of play is up there, can be well worth it.

Try TWIC first, it also has a good book review section, links to live games, and best of all, it's free Wink

I have a question about Chess Informant. Are the theory discussions annotated in the actual games or in a seperate column?

TWIC and Chess Informant will work for what I'm after.

My Chess Informants are in electronic form, not printed. The version i use is in the form of a *.CBH database, which uses ChessBase as the reader. Annotations are contained within each game.

New in Chess might be another alternative, but once again some find it a bit pricey...

Adding New in Chess to the list... I just found out that Komodo 8 is out by going there.

I also discovered that chessbase magizine is very good as well.

Chessbase Magazine

(more suggestions appreciated eventhough i think this is a very good list)
