Learning chess with a Neuro Atypical brain (aphantasia)

Hey, I have a condition called aphantasia. I cannot recreate any senses in my mind (images, scents, sounds etc). Therefore I cannot hold a series of moves in my head. I do love the game. Anyone else playing with the same condition? What strategies do you find helpful?
Coolmanjoes

take a picture of every possible move with your phone and then go back to it when you need it.

LanternFlies

Draw it out with pencil on paper.

We might be cooked bro, after realising that pictures in your mind weren't just metaphorical I've been bummed out every now and then knowing i'm missing a core human experience. In terms of chess I reckon theres some things you can do to get better for sure but forget top level or high level chess with this condition.

Being able to visualize a position can be helpful but is not necessary. People who do not have aphantasia often can't see what they want anyway. They might try to conjure up the position on the board and it will end up being a random position or the position might have random extra pieces added or it might constantly morph like a kaleidoscope. Calculation is a skill that can be learned with or without strong visualization. 99% of chess is recognizing patterns that you can physically see.
