Legal and fair?

Are the following situations legal and fair?

Firstly. A few days ago I thought I was going to have an endgame where I was going to have a King and Queen v a King and a Knight.  As I'm not sure of the technique of how to win in this situation would it have been acceptable to look up the required technique?  I'm not specifically getting the computer to give me moves in order to win. I'm just learning the required skill in order to apply to the game.  As it happened my opponent resigned before we got to that stage.

Secondly. Once a game has started can you use reference sources to help you with opening moves?

Thirdly I am playing in a tournament where the top three of each stage go through. If I get to my last game and a draw will see me through can I ask my opponent for a draw straight away? I can envisage a situation where a draw could benefit both of us.  However if we played the game and one of us lost it would allow someone else to go through. So by deliberately drawing we are affecting someone else's progression.

You didn't say if you were playing daily chess or live chess.

Assuming it's daily you could study endgame techniques.

You could also consult reference materials like databases as long as you weren't using the computer evaluation functions.

Daily.  Does it make a difference?

You can't use any outside help in live chess.

Thank you that is useful information.  That's an appropriate username you have.
