Just finished up my second lessons with Matt. Great guy, great coach.

This is one of my lesson summaries and a game review I did.  Let me know if you like it.  I can do the same for anyone who is interested.

I took the time to review this game.  Go over it first and then read the summary below.

Lessons to be learned from this game...

1. Only exchange pieces unless you have to, or it benefits you in some way.

2. Before you move, ask yourself if my opponent is threatening anything.

3. Get all of your pieces active, you can't win a chess game with just 1 piece.

4. Always fight for control of the open file, especially if there is only one.

5. If you are up material, you want to trade pieces not pawns, and vice versa if you are down material, you want to trade pawns not pieces.

6. if you have passed pawns push them down the board!

7. you want to have active rooks in the engame.

I had two lessons with Matt so far. He's a good coach, very knowledgable and patient.

Matt, I am impressed with your crisp word-by-word analysis. It seems to me that you are genuinely passionate about teaching chess to other players. Keep up the good work!

You've probably improved ~200 rating points yourself (since 2012). I can see it in your sensible strategic comments. Smile

Hey thanks. You're a great teacher yourself I remember clearly.  We should play a game sometime soon.

You teach endgame stuff?

A little.  Basic king and pawn endgames.  Some rook endgames.   You're rating seems a bit high for me to teach.   Looking to teach under 1200.  I'd be glad to help you but I may not be the right person to teach you.

thepassingpawn

I need that teaching, I have poor endgame play.

Hey guys.  Thought I would post another one of my games for you beginners to look at.  Hopefully you like my comments and will take me up on my offer for free lessons.  This game brings about an isolated queen pawn position.  I will explain general strategy for both sides when dealing with an IQP.  I am by no means an expert on the subject I will mostly be just touching on the basic principles.  Please comment or critique I'm always open to constructive criticism.

The comments I made on this were not intended to insult my opponent either please don't think that.  I meant no disrespect to him as he is a good player.

Great positional commentary. I am sure any player rated under 1400 could greatly benefit from your insight. Smile

Hey guys.  It's been awhile now.  I just thought I would give my free lessons thread yet another bumb to see if anyone is interested.  It's been awhile since I've done a free lesson and I'd like to get back into it.  Feel free to check out some of the game reviews I did that are posted in this thread.  If you are interested send me a message or otherwise feel free to take a look at the reviews and comment as Im sure any player under 1400 would find my comments beneficial.
