Letting time run out

Let's just start by saying I'm a newbie. I can beat all my friends & everyone at the local bar...but I came on this site & I'm getting my head handed to me. That's OK! That's what I expected. I'm learning a lot. What's up with all the people who are rated a couple of hundred points higher than me...& as soon as you get an advantage on them...they just stop playing & let the time run out. Do they lose less points for time running out or is it the same for being mated?  Either way I find it extremely rude.

The only way it makes a difference is if you leave the  game out of frustration.

They lose the same, but be alert. Some of them play the move in a last second hoping that you would not notice, thus making you timeout. Others just disconnect.

If they annoyed you, just block them (so you wouldn't play them again) and play with others.

Me and this person rated the same we each made a move, his move and in 3 days he didn't make a move. I got the win but my rating didn't change. Also, I noticed someone.will have 2 hours before they.are timed out,.then they me a move and get a full 2 days time back. They.weren't on vacation either.

How did he get his time back? I suppose I got the win but no rating change due to disconnection?

If it was this game  http://www.chess.com/echess/game.html?id=46981848, a timed out game of less than seven plies (three and a half moves) does not affect ratings.

Seem you have played enough "online" games to know it is three days per turn not three days per game.

lloll didn't catch that

they want you to be tired and leave the game Laughing

some people hates waiting for example 15 min and just look at the board

Some get angry when they are loosing and display poor sportsmanship. This is a sign of immaturity and has nothing to do with chess.

It can be found in all levels of players and has nothing to do with ability. The spirit in which the game is conducted is far more important than the outcome.

I do not like to make a mistake or to lose but I hope I have the decency to admit it pick myself up and play the next game.

Well said.
