The old vs computer couldn't have had actual ratings since the Java computer ran on your local machine, the age and speed of which directly affected performance. Plus, games were untimed, offered hints and allowed takebacks.
Level 7 computer rating?

Not really my point. But the computer's mistakes were blunders - and way too many to be rated anywhere near 1000 level.
Here's a game that I just played against the level 7 computer (PC desktop) and it doesn't seem to be very strong at all. Granted, I played somewhat accurately in this game (and I'm a little stronger than my current .com rating - new account) but I would have assumed it would've put up a little more resistance than it did. It rolled over way too easy - my guess is that even level 7 is sub 1000 level strength.
Under the previous chess site there were actual ratings affixed to the various computer levels, but now it just has one choose between levels 1 - 10. Does anyone have any idea as to the approximate corresponding ratings of the various levels?
