Is there another round at Linares today? I can't seem to find a schedule for the tournament. My shaky Spanish translated the official website saying there were descansos on 23 and 27th of Feb to mean those were rest days. Anyone know?

You're right, the 23rd, 27th Feb and 4th March are rest days.

OK, thanks guys. Radjabov - Carlsen, and Anand - Grischuk should be especially interesting.

Yes i agree with you there. If Carlsen beats a Radjabov(and he should) and Anand beats Grischuk(under normal surcomstances he will), then Carlsen will be on the top of the leaderboard.Smile

I don't know that Carlsen 'should' beat Radjabov, especially as Radjabov's playing White. I think that before the game he'd be happy with a draw, and hope to win all his games as White. I'm still rooting for him, but Radjabov's still an extremely good player (let's not forget that this is the guy Kasparov thought would be World Champion before too long).

I think the most interesting game today will be Anand-Grischuk as Anand must win if he wants a chance to still win the tourney and Grischuk is the sole leader and probably wants to stay there. Also, game 7 of the Topalov-Kamsky match is today and Topalov has his last white and enjoys a 1 point lead. Will he press for a win to end the match and crush Kamsky's hopes or will he just try and draw the last 2 games to win the match ?

Avatar of Simendo

You are probably right. Maybe i am a little to much pro-Carlsen(notice my flagTongue out) Radjabov is a excellent player, and yes i play withe. I still root for Carlsen, and remember that Radjabov has not had the best tournement until now, but everything can happen of course.

I like the "raisin kid" too and hope he becomes world champion soon. I would suppose that is his ultimate goal ?

Avatar of Simendo

I dont know Carlsen in person, but i`ll guess becoming a World Champion is his ultimate goal. I am really confident that he will be one day. Was hoping he would beat Kasparov`s record in becoming the youngest world Champions, but that can`t happen, can it?

Avatar of TheOldReb

I believe Kasparov was 22 when he became champion in 1985 ?  Carlsen still has a shot at breaking that record, yes.

Avatar of Simendo

Yes of corse, you right. But how is the world championship scheduled? Now Kamsky and Topalov is playing for the right to meet Anand in the WC in 2011. Is the next WC after that, in 2014? Is it that easy?

Avatar of TheOldReb

Thats a good question as FIDE changes rules even in the middle of a cycle so theres no way of knowing for sure.

Avatar of Simendo

Yes i read something about this a couple a months ago. It seems like a dumb thing to do by FIDE. It resulted in Magnus Carlsen withdrawing from the qualifay i think.

Avatar of gabrielconroy

Yeah, FIDE seem hell-bent on undermining the game and its best players at every opportunity.
