List my daily games by number of moves, or team matches will drag on for more months!

Under the new listing format for a player’s daily games (team match games), I can only see my games listed by “time left”. For players with lots of games, it is imperative that their games be listed by “number of moves”.  As a courtesy to my opponent, and the two teams waiting for a long team match to end, I need to be able to find my longer games so I can hurry up and move and get closer to ending the game. Under the old format I had the option of listing my games by “time left” or “number of moves”.  When I had some free time I’d concentrate on my 20 longest games that I knew my opponent and the 2 teams involved were anxious to see end.  Now it is very difficult to search through the “time left” list to find even a single long game, make a move, and then go search all over again for another long game. Then I have to go back and search all over again for the first long game where I made a move, that has disappeared back into the “time left”  list. It is such a daunting process, that players with lots of games are just going to wait for those long ones  to cycle back around to the top of the “time left” list every 3, 4, 5 or 6 days, and team matches are going to drag on for months longer!

at present mate it will always be shown as time remaining , and i think this is a good reason to not take on too many games , each player finds their comfort zone but if for example you limit yourself to 12 games then all will appear on the same page , and this should help in priortising

max 5 no 12

tomfinney123

yeah if 5 is your comfort zone cool as lets be honest here quality outweighs quantity , but of course at cc in groups theres always matches with admins asking players can you play , its striking the balance between team commitment and playing your best chess

I am currently at 90 or so, and have been as high as 150, but many players have hundreds going at once. They are the big supporters of our team matches. I’d get up most mornings at 5:30 before work, and check my “number of moves” list to see if any of my opponents in my longer games had moved, and if so I’d quickly make a move to get that game moving on  to a  conclusion. Now I and thousands of others will just sit back and wait for those long games to show up days later at the top of the “time left” list, before making our moves.

i have a sadness that comes when i think of how the Queen of the Picts , the much loved cc member , eval , got swamped by too many games and couldnt enjoy the site to the full as it was just constant move after move after move in the hope to get thru and set vacation to have a breather , eval is so inactive now and so many of us at cc miss her chirpiness and chat ,

burnout is a real thing here , and it hurts when good people feel no fun on this site

Hi Tom Finney, ol’ buddy. I play for teams where the admin is my friend, and If he asks me to join a team match, I always do….no matter how many games I have and no matter how busy I am with job, family, church, and dogs…..and fishing. And yup, my rating tends to crash the more games I take on. I was up over 2000 once upon a time, but now have found a home down around 1700 where I belong.

but i also look at the bible passage Galatians 6 . 2 , as a moral guide , i might not be of that faith but am 200% with that passage's morality

as an admin as a chess player as a human , i follow its philosophy , as im born with broad shoulders , so i carry the burden if it means a burden is lessened for another and i know that it is right to do so

i have 200+ games and since the change in Daily game list,  i only see first 100, i complain about this but chess.com support tell me "change is frustrating but is for the best" i don't understand if i can't see my games anymore; how this is best?, i just play less...

tomfinney123

less is not a bad thing though , id rather not feel like im swamped , juggling too many games with the reality of life ,

"life gets in the way of chess "

i have seen so many quit this site because of overload and it hurts me , as all we want is to have fun and enjoy chess chat and community

you gotta lessen the load mate otherwise it is a burden and where is the fun in that ?

Now if I played on your Kingdom of the Picts team, and you asked me to join a match and add 2 more games to my already crowded field,  how could I possibly say no?

tomfinney123

surfsnook you know Picts mate , but you may be unaware of how we operate , we rarely if ever ask a Pict to play we allow them the free choice to play or not , we recognise that at cc many players play many games and often admins ask them saying stuff like "important match " but all matches are equally important are they not , so all we do is arrange matches and let members decide of their own free will ,

it works for us we have fun and id recommend it as a way to do things to all teams

this is our way it works for us ,

so if you were to join and btw we would warmly welcome you as you have gained our respect , you would not get messages saying we need you to play , its just not our way ,

to be Pict is to be free this is our ethos

tomfinney123

this can find us outgraded at times , but we dont mind losing as thats just part of chess and can make us stronger , we do like winning too but as you know we are very ethos driven we even have songs that salute a loss , let me share that with you

tomfinney123

in our time at cc though we have earned alot of respect for our spirit and willingness to rise and fight for the lands we hold dear , its just what we do , face fear with a mighty roar , and smile as the blows get exchanged ,

all we really lose is our fear we embrace the joy of the coalface that is conflict over the board

tomfinney123

but enough about us lets sing praises to you and your team friend , with our respect we celebrate the latterday saints and what they offer to cc , worthy foes who honour the game we all love

Thanks TomFinney, but I hope this thread can get back to my original concern that unless players can see and find their longest games in a list based on “number of moves”, team matches are going to drag on for many more months.

tomfinney123

cool mate ,
