When choosing a new game of live chess, what do these options mean?

2|1, 3|2, 5|5, 15|10, 45|45

The first number is how many minutes the game is for.  The second, increment #, tells how many seconds get added to your time each time you move.  So yes you can build your time beyond what you started with.  Did that help?  I know there's an article....

Yes, thank you! I'd figured that it was minutes and something, and I'd noticed that somehow the clocks were being adjusted, but I wasn't sure if they were related. I've been playing against the computer a lot, so I keep running out of time because it takes me longer to decide my moves.
