Over the internet a lot of perverts, loners, wackos, you name it remain anonymous and roam around freely. Studies have shown that prolonged use of the internet and withdrawal from human interaction actually contribute to depression. When you play OTB at the club or just the park you almost always gain friends and have conversation here and there. Not lonely people but all kinds of people play Chess.

Friend of mine divorced his wife because she became addicted to World of Warcraft to the point where she was playing about 18-20 hours a day.
