In round 10 in the Candidates tournament GM Alexander Grischuk spent 72 minutes on his 12th move. Whats the longest you spent on a move in an OTB game? The most Ive spent was 45-50 minutes which has happened a couple of different times.

IMKeto

OTB 47 minutes.

Good question. It was probably around half an hour in my states’ like championship or whatever, otb.
AussieMatey

72 Minutes. About the same in an Australian Championship game.

In an OTB tournament, I had an opponent think for over an hour and then resign!

72 minutes! Sheeeesh! I wonder what he was calculating. How can you even see that deeply, pure madness!

I’m ashamed to admit the longest game I’ve played (other than daily chess) has been 10 minutes, so the longest I’ve ever spent on a move has really only been like 2 minutes lol

If you are interested GM Daniel King did a video on what GM Grischuk was thinking about. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tpa6QYbsyP0

I was just reading Tal's biography and he talks about a game he spent 1 hour and 40 minutes on a single move,
