I'm in Glendale, CA (just outside Los Angeles)  I am looking for a coach.  I am a beginner who wants to become a stronger player.  Am willing to pay, but not a fortune.

Yes, he's very helpful ... except that there's no such thing as the American Chess Federation, at least not since the 1860's.

Perhaps he meant the United States Chess Federation.
