losing games to my own bad play

monday morning started off poorly four losses in a row -- no wins well one win but i didn't deserve it the guy gave me the game -- seems like a lot of under 150 players are really a lot better than me -- not by a little but a lot -- then i meet four players in a row whom are just awful and and blunder all over the place till i can't help but win---- this seems very strange that they come in streaks 4 really bad players then four really good for my rank type players example a player say at 125 rank uses tactics i have read in book whose mid game over powers me and who moves are exactly the same time each --- then i get a 125 player in the next batch that blunders three times in row -- but these incidents come in streaks never one good player one bad player -- just four good players four bad players -- i don't get it -- well back to a few more games then read a chess book couple of pages -- if i can understand it --and a video lesson for 20 minutes -- then that will take me up to lunch i think

Monday alte afternoon won two games lost two games -- well really the losses i just gave up at 11pt spread couldn't seem to get anything going -- ok then--- see you after supper for a couple games ---- did watch a couple of videos on chessbahr -- maybe i should watch a couple more tonight before i play

LOSTATCHESS

maybe not fully rigged but something is very fishy about what opponents you play when it comes up

monday night four losses and three wins -- so back to 100 again or maybe 108 some thing

will read another chapter in my chess book or at least a couple of pages -- then couple more games before the meds will kick in

I have lost nearly 200 ELO after about 3 months of relatively steady wins/losses.
This game makes me hopeless.

If you play with a negative mind set, you tend to lose. It's a common cycle that can happen, which is why it's better to take a break if you notice youre not enjoying. Chess is a game of strategy and psychology.

LOSTATCHESS

yes the negative mind set is bad even when i win iam not happy with this game iam addicted to it no doudt -- but it seems some times so hard to over the depression especially when one is not working in another ones shoes to see how it affects them-- but back to the recent post --

again this morning tuesday morning won some games all in row against blunder prone players 100-130 players blundering more than me missing my queen and other pieces twice in each game - so my wins felt hollow -- i am sure my next games will be four /five against 100- 130 type players who defeat me easily so up down its still some thing i don't understand- how they cluster all the bad players then all the good players- i know its supposed to be like roulette with bk/red etc --- but it sure feels contrived just to keep me playing - i guess i just keep plugging alone -- blundering my why to my wins -- and losing when i play exactly the same -- just strange thats all

LOSTATCHESS

just what i thought four losses in row after the wins -- there has to be something to this

LOSTATCHESS

going to play bots for a while

AlekhineEnthusiast46

There is. If you feel yourself losing a couple of game in a row, take a break to avoid tilting.

AlekhineEnthusiast46

Um no, they don't. I don't have premium and is climbing just fine.

Does chess.com’s matching algorithm intentionally pair people against favorable match-ups after they take a “break” in an effort to keep them playing?
And then funnel them down losing streaks (less favorable matchups) with the intent of coercing players to succumb to this platform’s paywall (Premium)?

Only problem in that theory is that I'm quite sure there is no data available for the algorithm to determine a favourable or unfavourable opponent. Maybe they could increase your chance of losing by 5% (I dont think even that) with some weird opening matching but nothing nearly enough to cause a losing streak. This theory is very far fetched.

AlekhineEnthusiast46

Yeah, it would also be very difficult for chess.com to do.

AlekhineEnthusiast46

Why would they rig it for YOU specifically? Don't say money, I have not spent a cent on the site and is growing just fine, ask non-premium players if they are better now then when they started.

Tron95110

Ugh I'm so bad against other players

AlekhineEnthusiast46

Sometimes yeah me too. Good days and bad days just happen sometimes. Make sure you learn from your mistakes, and move on. Disregard a 10 game losing streak. It will just make you less confident, making you play worse.

It would not be difficult given they collect data on your openings and win %.

Yes it would be very difficult and more than anything very easy to verify for you if you want. Your losses all have records so feel free to check if on your loss streaks they have abnormally high win % or something - No they wont.

just got off winning a few games in row and yes lost a couple but in between wins what iam talking about is winning four games exactly then lose four games exactly ina row each time i play maybe its all in my head since iam a really bad player but i play the same way against other players of supposed be even ranking and then lose four in row after four wins against the same type of player-- unless ---- unless -- there are a lot of people whom are sandbaggers here playing on purpose at a low level just to get their kicks off -- or maybe try new things against people who know no better and have multi accounts cause when i lose in these bunches they the players are using text book hooks and all kind of better moves that 125rank players don't use ---but why in a grouping is what iam wondering why not every other game or something -- course these are such minor things in the hill of beans here at chess.com its not much to consider --- i still can't get out of the basement 118 tonight --- god i hope the meds kick in real soon --

You should make a documentary about your chess journey, lost. It would be very inspiring and entertaining.

LOSTATCHESS

thankyou that you think so - but i am afraid you would have to have some success to present a chess journey like mine that would complingto watch - or it would be boring watching someone lose all the time and being criticized for trying to come up with new method to win --- one would need someone who has a chance to succeed i am afraid just a old sick dog--( old dog new tricks thing ) --whom victory has a very slim chance to show its face -- wed morning won four games lost two so that's not happened for few days -- almost at 150 now almost ---next batch of games i sure will get me down to 100 again -- but then who knows i am finding playing the 24 hours games very interesting making me think for a change on what to do next -- but players are all --a very heavy paygrade above me in ranking and see through my moves every time - that being saids i still find them interesting to play much more than slam bang thank-you mam 3/5 min losses i usually do

well back at after lunch -- i think i need to get snow blower checked before i really need it did not use it once last year - plugs are probably dirty and gas is no good back after lunch

Deebofn19

Well, I found out that I do better at 30min. instead of ten. more patient and able to make better moves. I also have learned a couple more openings than just the London and the kings Indian with black. I have won the last 15 out of 17 games. the goal is to get to 500 or 600 if things are going well. I am at 456. The new openings are the Caro-Khan and the Scandanavian defense. having fun as of now. Let's go!!!

LOSTATCHESS

sounds like you got things going in right direction "deebofn19" iam trying one day games right now to see what happens - maybe a 30 min games might be something to consider even more will good for you on your journey good luck
